MIIGAiK can provide a chance for you to get a unique and prestigious education which will enable you to work with any business company or organization in the field of cartographic and geodetic or surveying production, in construction, in Research and Development departments and space centers, to teach students at colleges or technical universities, to carry out research.
It can be borne out by the fact that three graduates from MIIGAiK - V. Savinykh, V. Tsybliev and Yu. Gidzenko became cosmonauts of the Soviet Union and Russia.
At present, the University is a large education- research-and-production complex including six faculties of day-time training, a distance learning faculty, a faculty of raising the level of professional skills of teachers of higher educational institutions and retraining of specialists, postgraduate courses and courses for doing doctoral dissertations, training laboratories in various fields of geodesy, cartography and remote sensing. In the structure of the University there are science-and-production centers GEODINAMIKA and GEOMONITORING, a complex laboratory for research into extraterrestrial territories, the Publishing House of the Journal Geodesy and Air Photosurveying, two training ranges, a few computing centers, a training-geodetic museum and a library.
Besides, two specialized colleges situated in Moscow City and the City of Kirov offer specialized secondary education training courses on Geodesy and Cartography and Land Management and Cadastres.
A great volume of research activities and industrial work is performed by 15 University research-and-educational laboratories developing modern instruments and technologies and introducing them into topographic-and-geodetic practice, they are also dealing with application of geoinformation systems to cartography, cadastres, and remote sensing of the Earth.
At the University, 5,000 students and postgraduate students from all over Russia and from the CIS and foreign countries are trained. Every year over 1000 newcomers, including 750 full-time students, are enrolled at the University.
More than 1,000 employees, including 470 teachers and 100 scientific workers are on the staff of the University. Among teachers there are 30 fully-fledged and corresponding members of various academies, 68 professors and doctors of sciences and 230 senior lecturers, who did their PhD, and candidates of sciences.
A considerable proportion of the teaching staff has got great experience in production and scientific activities. Nowadays, 12 Honored Workers of Science, Technology and Education of Russia are working at the University. 36 persons have the honorary title of the Honorific Worker of Geodesy and Cartography.
36 departments support the training process at the University, a majority of them being graduating. 8 new departments have been established and reorganized for the last 5 years at the University in order to start training specialists in information technologies, application of up-to-date hardware and technology to the field of geodesy, cartography and cadastre. The University has founded 6 branches ensuring training of specialists, on the basis of enterprises of Moscow and other cities of the central region of Russia.
MIIGAiK is a specialized and most known higher educational institution in Russia, conducting multilevel training of diploma specialists, bachelor`s and master`s degree holders in the field of geodesy, photogrammetry, cartography, aerospace surveying, geoinformation systems (GIS), optical instrument-making, besides there are also trained lawyers, architects, managers in the field of land control and cadastre. Summing up, the University has been licensed to train specialists in 20 majors, bachelor`s degree holders in 12 majors and master`s degree holders in 24 majors.
The training process at the University combines advanced methods of fundamental university and technical-engineering education.
Great attention is paid to the application of computer technologies to the training process as it is a necessary prerequisite for ensuring a modern level of a specialist training.
